A Speyside distillery is on a winning streak after clinching another two top industry accolades for its exclusively sherry cask matured single malt in The Scotch Whisky Masters 2019 competition.

Tamdhu Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky has scooped the top Master Award for Tamdhu 15 Year Old and the Gold Award for Tamdhu Batch Strength 004, as part of the leading international spirits trade contest.

Tamdhu 15 Year Old was awarded the Master accolade in the ‘Single Malt: Speyside – Aged 13-18 Years’ category; and Tamdhu Batch Strength 004 was awarded Gold in the ‘Single Malt: Speyside – Super Premium’ category.

The annual Scotch Whisky Masters competition aims to find and reward the world’s finest Scotch whiskies.

Tamdhu launched its new limited annual release 15 Year Old earlier this year to complement its collection in domestic and travel retail markets globally. Tamdhu 15 Year Old has been created for specialist domestic retailers, reflecting Tamdhu’s commitment to producing ‘only the best’ sherry cask matured whisky. Bottled at 46% ABV, non-chillfiltered and natural colour, Tamdhu 15 Year Old has been matured in American and European Oak Oloroso seasoned casks.

After 15 years in these casks, the result is a complex and rich single malt whisky that delivers a nose of apple pastry, spiced currants and orange zest with notes of pineapple and fennel. The palate delivers juicy apricot and vibrant raspberry, with lemon tart and almonds. The finish is a rewardingly long journey through malt biscuit, cream sherry and vanilla.

Launched in March, Tamdhu Batch Strength 004, bottled at 57.8%, is the fourth edition in Tamdhu’s award-winning Batch Strength Series. Each batch in the series is distinctive, differs slightly in style and strength and is bottled Non-chillfiltered.

Tamdhu Batch Strength 004 boasts a complex richness, deep intensity and natural colour. The scarce wood of the sherry cask bears two great gifts; colour and taste. The deep copper hue of Tamdhu Batch Strength 004 is developed by the oak cask, nothing more – and each drop owes its rich, complex taste to its Oloroso cask home.

Commenting on the latest award success for Tamdhu, Sandy McIntyre, Tamdhu Distillery Manager said: “It’s brilliant to see the exceptional quality of Tamdhu recognised by another well-respected industry competition. We’re extremely proud of our exclusively sherry cask matured single malt and we’re delighted to see Tamdhu 15 Year Old and Tamdhu Batch Strength 004 have been so well received by the judging panel.

“Congratulations go to the whole team here at the Tamdhu Distillery, who dedicate their time to hand crafting only the best single malt. Once again they have worked their magic to create two top winners for the Tamdhu range.”

The Master and Gold Award in The Scotch Whisky Masters 2019 is just the latest in a growing number of top accolades for Tamdhu in recent months, including the ‘Icons of Whisky 2019’ award for Tamdhu’s Distillery Manager, Sandy McIntyre, a Double Gold for Batch Strength 004 in the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2019 and World Whiskies Awards Best Scotch Speyside Single Cask Single Malt and Gold for Tamdhu Gran Reserva.

Tamdhu’s full range also includes Tamdhu 12 Year Old, along with two new travel retail exclusives, Ámbar 14 Year Old, Tamdhu Gran Reserva First Edition and Edinburgh Airport Exclusive Single Cask.

Owned by family firm, Ian Macleod Distillers, Tamdhu uses only the best Oloroso sherry seasoned American and European oak casks giving the award-winning single malt its natural, dark amber colour, intense richness on the palate and its deep, long finish.

Tamdhu exclusively matures in sherry seasoned casks, which are crafted in the family cooperages and bodegas of Jerez for up to 6 years before beginning their journey to Scotland.
